These are a few of the links you should bookmark
Once again this is not a complete list, only those links I have found that were usefull. I understand there is a lot of software and discussion about software in the user groups (on your left menu) but as I tend to avoid closed groups like that I can't really say one way or the other. The links here are the publicly available ones.
USERMODS
Why install usermods, well sometimes they give you functionality you miss.
- Usermods & software at Greg Price's Prycroft site, I have applied the usermod to provide the additional TSO functions. Some of the others look interesting as well. Take a look.
Software and Utilities
You should always try to stay up to date with the latest versions of software, and I personally find the updates from the Pycroft site invaluable.
- Software and Utilities at Prycroft, the cleanest installation of QUEUE and IMON are here (can't remember if I got the latest version of RPF here, backtracking my links... sigh). I also got a working version of SPY from here.
- the CBT Tape library, some of the older software is for MVS 3.8J; the site lists the tapes that should be relevant but a lot of newer software can also be retrofitted with a bit of work. As it took me ages to work out how to get the table of contents (file1) off the cbt tapes I have some sample JCL here that should read the aws images
- Jim Morrison also has his usefull links on the CBT site as well.
- also you can get a copy of a IND$FILE for MVS3.8J from Jay Moseley's FAQ page, the only place I can find to get it without having to actually join the yahoo hercules-390 group.
HERCCMD
The HERCCMD program allows Hercules commands to be issued from the guest MVS38J system if the DIAG8 interface is enabled. This is a program most TK3 users installed long ago, so may have forgotten the orional AWS location. HERCCMD details are located here.
RAKF
RAKF is an implementation of the ESG security system (ESG sources are on
CBT tape 429 file 165) that has been back-ported to MVS3.8J by some of the
VS2 hobbiests (see credits in the RAKF file).
The RAKF security system is packaged available to all as an SMP
install on CBT Tape 486 file 850 available from http://cbttape.org.
Updated copies may be available on the yahoo hercules-390 group
but that is members only (you have to sign up to a yahoo account before
even attempting to join it and who needs more email accounts)
I have additional notes on RAKF functionality
as shipped on the CBT tape 486 if you are interested.
