Helpfull HOWTO Documentation and Frequently Asked Questions
This will be built up into a useful list of howto tips as time goes by.
It is not intended to replace any of that vast documentation available already on the internet for Turnkey3 and mvs3.8j.
It will provide information that either expands some of the existing documentation by pointing out tricks and traps, plus provide a place to provide additional documentation on the customisations I have made to make it more manageable.

- Adding a new TSO user which is a little more complicated than simply creating a new user using "account"
- Adding a new APF authorised dataset as some users may want their own dataset(s) to avoid polluting supplied datasets

Installing RAKF onto a base Turnkey3 (TK3) system.
The RAKF security system is packaged as an SMP install on CBT Tape 486 file 850 available from cbttape.org, use the documentation within that dataset to install on Turnkey3 (which I found easy to do)
You must (well should) also install the IKJEFF10 exit on CBT tape 249 file 358 if you wish to submit jobs from TSO. I have provided some notes on the benefits and drawbacks of installing RAKF.
If you are using the TK4- distribution RAKF is already installed.

Question: how can I obtain hercules and an operating system to run on it ?
Answer: you did not read the main page for this section of the site did you as it has a link to documentation on that very subject; but to save you the effort of clicking on the "section home" menu option and having to read the page properly to find it how to obtain hercules also has a link on that page to all the possible operating system options I am aware of. -
Question: why is there no ISPF for MVS3.8J ?
Answer: ISPF is s licended product so not available on TK3, use RFP and Q plus RFE (Review front end) which run well on TK3. There are some later available updates based on TK4- that have Wally Mclaughlin's built from the ground up version of ISPF installed onto them, some of which were covered on the obtaining MVS3.8J page -
Question: why is there no REXX ?
Answer: REXX was not around in mvs3.8j, however BREXX370 is available to install into mvs3.8j TK3 and TK4- if you wish to use the REXX programming language. More recent versions of TK4- (from 07 I think) and derivitives based on that have various versions of BREXX370 installed. Refer back to the obtaining MVS3.8J page
