I have found a new doggie treat that Fletcher will actually eat (well after he has completely licked the liver flavoured coating off it anyway). A love ’em liver chew, sort of like a tux dog biscuit in consistency but with a liver coating on one side. They seem healthier than his normal treats. Not a a meal replacement of course but they seem a lot healthier than pretty much anything else he likes.
I think they are designed for big dogs that can crunch them and swallow them in a few bites, but Fletcher manages to hold one between his front paws as he slowly (with great determination, like a rusk to a baby, keeps him quiet and good for the teeth) nibbles through it in a few hundred bites (plus the licking time to get the coating off first of course).
Only trouble is they are hard to find. I got a couple from countdown in porrirua a few weeks ago to see if he would like them, he did. When I went back they had one (1) biscuit left. Pak and Save doesn’t sell them at all.
But the weather was so bad tonight it wasn’t safe to be on the motorway, so I got off it at tawa and checked the supermarket there, they had them; grabbed another six. That will keep him happy for a while, and as least I know where I can buy more for now anyway.
