Another disk failure, must be that time of year

Another expensive few weeks, lots of bills all at once. And now it appears I have had another disk drive failure, a 320Gb (boot and OS disk) one in my main patching server; fortunately the patching components are mirrored to another Fedora server. Pretty sure it’s the disk, all the cable connections are OK and booting a Fedora recovery disk doesn’t detect that disk.

The failed disk however was also unfortunately a dual boot disk for my sole remaining Windows-XP-pro instance. So I can purchase another 320Gb disk and restore the last disk backup image onto it, but from memory Windows-XP will refuse to boot from any hard disk other than the exact one it was installed onto; so I may have trouble with getting this going again without re-installing XP from scratch.

Only one way to find out. At least I know what I am doing next weekend now, if I get time. Where did I put the darn XP install CD, and the other one for the pro upgrade, sigh.
