WordPress, why does it need internet access ?.

WordPress runs like a dog without internet access. I had powered off my network routers, as I’m nice to other internet users and didn’t want my internal host discovery/penetration testing etc to spill outside my own network… and wordpress just hangs for minutes. I know it tries to go and check for updates etc but really, it must make a lot of internet requests every time a admin user logs on.

Ohh, after about 5mins it tells me wordpress news isn’t available. I’ll have to find out how to turn that off.

I think I’ll wireshark it over the weekend. For offline use at least wordpress.org and planet.wordpress.org will need overriding.

And it appears it tries to access the internet from every page, even selecting the add a new post option is just waiting, waiting.

Never noticed before as I’m usually connected. Curious about what it does now.
